Common Screen Printing Terms and Definitions

  • The piece of equipment used to cure screen printed products.

  • This occurs when an ink that is printed migrates outside of its printed area into surrounding areas of the shirt.

  • Branding refers to the logo's and design style of a particular brand or product.

  • A reference to when the edges of 2 different printed colors come edge to edge but do not overlap with each other.

  • Refers to the design areas on either side of the chest.

  • An emulsion is a mixture of two or more liquids that are normally immiscible (unmixable or unblendable). When used in the context of screen printing it is usually a light (uv) sensitive coating screens.

  • A clear piece of printable material with your artwork printed onto it in all black, used in the process of transferring the image to the screen.

  • A frame is the housing that a screen is stretched across and holds it in place.

  • The material that makes up a screen.

  • The plate used on a press which holds the material in place and presses it against the screen.

  • A press refers to the actual screen printing equipment and machinery that is used in the screen printing process.

  • The designated boundary in which a print can be applied.

  • A screen is the material through which inks are pressed onto a material surface.
